Stair Ghaelscoil an Ráithín

Tosaíodh ar an bhfeachtas chun Gaelscoil a bhunú i Ráithín i 2001. B'iomaí constaic a bhí le sárú, ach le díograis agus dúthracht an choiste, osclaíodh an scoil i Meán Fómhair 2003, faoi stiúr an phríomhoide Michele Ní Fhátharta le h-aitheantas oifigiúil na Roinne Oideachais agus faoi phátrúntacht Easpag Caitliceach Dheoise Luimnigh chun freastal as an éileamh ar bhunscolaíocht lánGhaelach i ndeisceart Chathair Luimnigh agus ar an gceantar máguaird. Lá mór do shaol na scoile ab ea an lá seo. Rinne Tomás Ó Mainnín tuairisc ar an ócáid stairiúil seo ar R.T.É. agus ar TG4.

Ó bhunú na scoile, tá Gaelscoil an Ráithín lonnaithe i seomraí réamhdhéanta i suíomh sealadach scoile i gCumann Rugbaí Gharraí Eoin. Ag an am seo, tá scoil nua á thógáil agus beimid ag bogadh isteach i Meán Fómhair 2017.

Tá ainm na scoile i mbéal an phobail as ardchaighdeán oideachais lán-ghaeilge a chur ar fáil do pháistí na scoile. Tá béim ar leith ar an gceol, amhránaíocht agus rince gaelach sa scoil. Bíonn deis ag na páistí dul ag snámh agus camógaíocht, iománaíocht, peil, sacar, lúthchleasaíocht agus rugbaí a imirt le linn dóibh bheith ar scoil.

Bhí rath ar obair na múinteoirí agus ar shaothar an bhord bainistíochta agus dá bharr tá an scoil imithe ó neart go neart ó 2003 i leith. Seo a leanas clárú na scoile:

History of Gaelscoil an Ráithín

The campaign was initiated to establish a Gaelscoil an Ráithín in 2001. There were many obstacles to be overcome, but through the enthusiasm and dedication of the committee, the school opened in September 2003, under the leadership of the principal Michele Ní Fhátharta. The school was recognized by the Department of Educatio,n and under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Limerick to meet the demand for an all-Irish primary school in the south of Limerick City and Mungret area. This was a momentus day in the school's life. Thomas Manning reported on this historic event on RTÉ and TG4.

Since the founding of the school, Gaelscoil an Ráithín is located in a prefabricated temporary school site in Garryowen Rugby Club. At this moment, the new school is being built and we will be moving in September 2017.

The school's name is publicised for the high-quality all-Irish education provided in the school. Particular emphasis is placed on music, drama, singing and Irish dancing school. The children have the opportunity to swim and take part in sports such as; camogie, hurling, football, soccer, athletics and rugby while at school.

The school's success was due to the work of teachers, parents and the board of management. Therefore the school has gone from strength to strength since 2003. The following table illustrates the growth of the school:
